WBCS Selection Process 2025
The WBCS Exam is conducted in three stages:
SSC GD Syllabus 2025 and Updated Exam Pattern (English)
Preliminary Examination
- The Prelims Exam is a screening test that consists of one objective paper on General Studies.
- Unlike many other state PSC exams, there is no Aptitude Test in WBCS Prelims.
Mains Examination
- The WBCS Mains exam consists of six compulsory papers and one optional subject (two papers), applicable for Group A & B candidates.
- Four out of six compulsory papers are MCQ-based:
- General Studies I
- General Studies II
- Constitution of India & Indian Economy (including RBI functions)
- Arithmetic & Reasoning
- Candidates can choose to write the Essay-based Mains papers in Bengali or English.
- If a candidate reveals their identity in descriptive papers, 10% marks deduction will be applied.
